Master's Laboratory - Mechatronics Lab I: Simulation of an Assembly Cell

Course Type Lab
Level Master
Semester

Summer Semester

Creditpoints 2 CP / 4 CP

Course Objectives

The Master's Laboratory Mechatronics I is a joint module of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. It is held in the summer semester at the respective institutes in groups of four. There are eight experiments in total.

The match offers the course “Simulation of an Assembly Cell” for Master's students on the mechatronics and mechanical engineering. All courses are coordinated by the Institute of Automatic Control. Details on how the course fits into the degree program can be found in the course and module catalogs.

Course Contents

Simulation programmes are becoming increasingly important for the planning and realisation of industrial  manufacturing plants. One important factor is the heightened planning security, which lowers risks for companies. This allows for shorter payback times, as costs and anticipated revenues of a given plant can be taken into account early on in the planning.

The lab conveys the basic functions of simulation programmes, using the software Visual Components. The design fundamentals for plant layouts are covered, as is computer aided offline-programming of robots at the computer. After introducing the basic programme functions, a plant layout is analysed on the basis of economic criteria and according recommendations for action are derived.

The script for this lab contains all necessary knowledge in assembly technology, simulation, fundamental robot technology and Visual Components functionalities. A comprehensive understanding of the topics in the script is a precondition for participation in the lab. The script can be accessed via Stud.IP after registering for the course.
