Student exchange
A key component of the cooperation between Leibniz Universität Hannover and the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” (KPI) is the exchange of students and academic staff. This initiative allows participants to gain international experience, learn diverse scientific methods, and improve language skills, resulting in collaborative scientific publications (phi-Artikel).
Future student exchanges are scheduled for the winter semester 24/25 and the summer semester 2025. However, due to the Russian invasion and the national emergency in Ukraine, these exchanges face significant challenges. To address this, cross-location online seminars are planned, allowing Ukrainian students to remain in their location. During this online exchange, Master’s students can delve into research areas at LUH and write theses on selected topics in robotics.
Lectures
In addition, match and the KPI are planning to collaborate on teaching, with a focus on computer-based research fields. Drawing on match's deep expertise, they plan to craft an innovative course on artificial intelligence and machine learning for students in Kiev. This course will blend match's cutting-edge knowledge and proven teaching materials with hands-on workshops for KPI lecturers.
Looking ahead, the vision is to offer joint courses that span both universities, enabling students to participate in online lectures and collaborate on cross-border projects. One exciting initiative involves creating practical courses in programming neural networks and self-learning systems. Here, students will write code independently and then merge their efforts via digital platforms like GitLab. These collaborative programs will be rigorously tested at both universities, fostering a truly international and interactive learning experience.
Donation of hardware and software
Due to the current situation in Ukraine, KPI lacks the financial resources available to most institutes within the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Leibniz Universität Hannover. This shortfall affects their ability to procure essential hardware and software. In response, LUH's match has stepped in to support by providing surplus PCs and monitors to KPI.
Additionally, match transferred 15 unused licenses of the KUKA.Sim software to KPI. This has allowed the Ukrainian university to expand its range of robotics courses and improve its research opportunities in this field.
Overall, the partnership between match and KPI Kyiv exemplifies successful international cooperation in academic research and education. It promotes knowledge and innovation across borders while strengthening scientific exchange between Germany and Ukraine.
